IR(A) SE/ME Course – Instrument Rating Training (Single-Engine / Multi-Engine Piston Land)

IR(A) SE/ME Course – Instrument Rating Training (Single-Engine / Multi-Engine Piston Land)

Holding an Instrument Rating IR(A) authorises you to conduct flight operations in controlled airspace and in almost all weather conditions, without visual reference to the ground, in accordance with Instrument Flight Rules (IFR). During IFR flight, navigation is performed using on-board instruments and avionics, ground-based navigation aids, and increasingly satellite-based navigation systems. The entire flight is supervised by an air traffic controller responsible for coordinating air traffic.

Theoretical IR(A) training, similarly to CPL(A) theoretical training, can be completed in two ways: either through a dedicated Instrument Rating course or as part of the integrated ATPL(A) programme.

Practical training typically consists of 35 hours in a modern flight simulator and 15 hours in our Piper PA-28R Arrow, equipped with state-of-the-art Garmin avionics and a full glass cockpit. Training may also be conducted on a multi-engine MEP(L) aircraft – the PA-30 Twin Comanche. In that case, the programme comprises 40 hours on a flight training device and 15 hours on the PA-30.
